Honoring the textile heritage of Hawaiʻi and the enduring craft of the holokū, each new arrival at Language of the Birds begins with research — into the prints, the forms, and the cultural history that makes this work mean something. Our patterns draw from the architecture, landscape, and visual language of the islands, developed over years of original design and archival study. Cut and sewn in small batches in Upstate New York from carefully sourced BCI cotton and other natural materials, every new piece is built to carry that history forward — a garment rooted in place, made to last well beyond the season it arrives in.
